EMERGENCY EDUCATION RESPONSE

On 16th August 2017, Agency for Assistance and Development of Somalia-AADS has signed an agreement with an international NGO named ARD on Emergency Education & Advocacy for Human Rights project in Bay Region. Therefore, the project is targeting out of school children, protective and lifesaving education activities that integrate other components of WASH, Health and Protection to achieve quality education for most vulnerable learners faced with prolonged drought in Bay region.

Overall project objective

To ensure retention of learners where they live through protective and lifesaving education activities that integrate other components of WASH, Health and Protection to achieve quality education for most vulnerable learners faced with prolonged drought in Bay region.

Project Beneficiaries

This project targets 2,120 children (1260 being girls) enrolled in schools but faced with the high possibility of dropping out due to the ongoing drought, humanitarian crisis and conflicts  in Bay region which has greatly affected availability of food and water. The beneficiaries also include 56 teachers (18 female) and 33 CECs (11 females) who are most at risk of deserting schools for other better paying jobs. The main aim is to retain the learners and teachers so as to avoid massive dropout rates which may be occasioned by displacement, inward migration and negative coping strategies related to the drought.  The children and families targeted shall be from poor and most vulnerable households include IDPs, returnees and host communities with special attention to children with disabilities learners.
